By First Lady Katie O’Malley
Healthy eating is an important part of healthy living. It’s also great for families to spend time together in the kitchen cooking food they love. That’s why we’re excited to announce ChopChop Maryland, a new initiative to encourage fun and healthy cooking (and eating) for families across Maryland.
Starting next month, and every month for the next year, as part of this project, we’ll be sending out delicious, easy recipes that families can make together, using Maryland ingredients. The recipes are being developed by Sally Sampson, Founder and President of ChopChop Magazine.
Our first recipe will be released next Monday, October 3. And we’ll be hosting a special event to celebrate ChopChop Maryland with the head of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” Campaign, Dr. Judith Palfrey.
To get the recipes and be eligible for prizes, just text CHOPMD to 43186. You’ll be registered in the program, and will receive texts when new recipes are available. You’ll also hear about our Facebook page and have access to other great information. (Message and data rates may apply.)
The recipes and the text messages are also available in Spanish. Sign up by texting CHOPES to 43186.
The recipes and the prizes are free. If you have any questions, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
This new series of fun and healthy recipes will be available online, and at local non-profits and health organizations across the State. I’d like to thank ChopChop Magazine, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Aaron and Lillie Straus Foundation, and the Horizon Foundation for realizing the importance of providing our children with healthy options.
As a mother of four, I know how important it is to have healthy meals with my family. Martin and I have a garden at home, and we encourage Maryland families to improve their health and buy local.
We hope you will enjoy ChopChop Maryland. There is nothing like enjoying the value of the work it takes to make something yourself, and the joy of tasting something delicious that you’ve made together as a family.
