Governor Martin O’Malley Appoints William Miles Mattingly to St. Mary’s County Orphan’s Court

ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 7, 2012) – Governor Martin O’Malley today announced the appointment of William Miles Mattingly to the St. Mary’s County Orphan’s Court. Mr. Mattingly fills a vacancy created by the passing of his brother Charles Mattingly, III.

“I’d like to thank all of the qualified members of the local community who expressed their interest in filling this vacancy. Today, I am pleased to announce the appointment of William Miles Mattingly to the St. Mary’s County Orphan’s Court,” said Governor O’Malley. “Mr. Mattingly has a long and proud history of service. As past Chair of the County Board of Education, he is highly-regarded and demonstrates great leadership and knowledge in managing complex issues. We are confident that he will bring to the bench a broad range of expertise, a true commitment to public service, and a dedication to upholding the laws of the State.”

William Miles Mattingly has a notable history of community service, business and management background and law enforcement experience in St. Mary’s County and throughout southern Maryland.  Currently retired, he worked as District Manager for Waste Management of Southern Maryland where he oversaw the company’s capital budget and developed operations, personnel and maintenance for St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert counties. He held equivalent duties as Sales and Operations General Manager for St. Mary’s Disposal Systems. Prior to that, he worked as a Road Patrol Officer for Charles County and St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Departments. Mr. Mattingly served on the Board of Education as an elected member for eight years, the last three as Chair. He has been a youth coach for St. Mary’s County Parks and Recreation and a Trustee at St. Mary’s County Historical Society.
