Today I joined with University of Maryland Master Gardeners and youth apprentice gardeners to kick off this year’s “Grow It Eat It” food garden at Government House. Last year’s garden was a great success, and we hope to continue our success by encouraging more Marylanders to consider creating a backyard garden of their own.
That is why, this year, we have partnered with the University of Maryland Extension’s Master Gardeners, and the Maryland Department of Agriculture to present a lecture series once a month through October in the Government House garden. Class topics include everything from how to grow a container garden, how to grow great tomatoes, and how to harvest and prepare meals from the bounty from the garden. Marylanders can register for the classes on my website.
I hope you can join me and other Marylanders in planting a garden, so that we improve our health and save money by growing fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs using sustainable practices.
