A Letter from the Lieutenant Governor
I I am honored that Governor O’Malley has appointed me as Chair of the Governor’s Subcabinet on Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC). As an organization, our primary mission is to ensure that Maryland is BRAC-ready by 2011.
To accomplish this mission, we will horizontally coordinate across State agencies and vertically collaborate with our federal, regional and local partners. Through a regional approach centered around our BRAC installations, we will coordinate with our federal, county and local government partners to help direct and prepare for BRAC-related growth opportunities, while sustaining and enhancing the quality of life of our Maryland citizens.
Specifically, the Subcabinet has authored a comprehensive action plan that identifies and guides critical tasks, programs, projects, activities, and initiatives to address the needs created by the arrival of residents and businesses resulting from the BRAC process.
The Subcabinet also held a series of productive and informative meetings in the counties experiencing BRAC-related growth in order to work more closely with local officials to maximize the benefits of this decision while maintaining our quality of life in Maryland. In every respect, Maryland is prepared to undertake the responsibility of being a national leader in the on-going support of the patriotic men and women, the warfighters, who keep our country safe.
I want to express my profound gratitude and sincere desire to work with our citizens to ensure a successful BRAC process for the State of Maryland. We look forward to the many opportunities to come and welcome our newest Maryland neighbors!
Anthony Brown
Lt. Governor
