Live Baltimore is hosting Buying Into Baltimore, a homebuying fair featuring four different neighborhood tours. There are two fairs, one for the West side in May and another for the East side in September. The fairs provide homebuying education opportunities and introduce participants to the variety of Baltimore’s neighborhoods and housing styles.
Through the City of Baltimore government, a total of $400,000 is available for 100 new homebuyers annually. Fifty (50) individuals from each fair are eligible to receive a $4,000 or $5,000 homebuying award per fair. That means 50 awards will be awarded from the Western Fair and 50 awards will be awarded from the Eastern Fair. The financial award can be applied toward downpayment and closing costs. There is a $15.00 participation fee to attend this event, children under 10 are free. The participation fee also includes an registration packet with homebuying resources.
Buying Into Baltimore will be held on Saturday, 10 September 2001, from 8:30 am to 2 pm at Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School, 3500 Hillen Road, Baltimore, MD 21218.
Online pre-registration is closed but there will be on-site registration at the event. The on-site registration fee is $15 per person (CASH ONLY).
8:30am – 11am Check-In and Neighborhood Tour Sign-up
Check-in and receive your registration packet containing valuable homebuying resources. During this time, review the neighborhood tour routes and sign-up for the tour(s) you would like to go on. Please note, tour routes do fill up.
9am – 11am Homebuying Classes
Classes are 45 minutes long and begin at 9am, 10am, and 11am. These classes do not count toward a Homeownership Counseling Certificate. The classes are intended to offer general guidance on important homebuying topics.
10am Exhibitor Area Opens
Visit with exhibitors, including real estate agents, mortgage companies, community groups, the City of Baltimore Office of Homeownership, and various homeownership counseling agencies.
11am – 1:15pm Neighborhood Tours
The guided neighborhood tours will start promptly at 11am. Event participants wishing to participate in the narrated bus tours must register with staff and volunteers on site between 8:30-11am. You must visit at least four (4) of the homes on the tour to get your Award Ticket stamped. This is required to qualify for the $4,000 financial award.
