DATA

The Governor's Grants Office tracks some of its measurable data in its most recent summary of activities and accomplishments. Click Here to view Grants Office Activities and Accomplishments.

The U.S. Census Bureau publishes data each year (FY 2003 data will be released in May 2004) that lists most of the figures needed to make state-by-state comparisons. Census data is broken down by five major categories:

  • direct payments
  • retirement/disability
  • grants
  • procurement
  • salary/wages

Census data is also broken down by individual federal agencies. View all FY 2003 data, with the state-by-state comparison by category (e.g. grants, procurement).

The general Census Bureau Web page on federal funds to the states allows for more detailed searches by topic and locality.

In the past, an annual state-by-state comparative analysis of federal funds going to the states was prepared by Harvard University. The most recent report was issued in 2000 but even this dated report is worth reading for anyone who wants to learn more about this topic.
