ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 29, 2007) - Lt. Governor Anthony Brown released the following statement today regarding the death of Congressman Parren Mitchell:
“The loss of Parren Mitchell will be felt deeply by all Marylanders. He was a true warrior for equal rights and fought for what he believed in until the day he died. As the first African American Congressman from Maryland, he broke down walls and fought for freedoms like few others. Those of us in public service today must pick up the torch that now stands unmanned. On Congressman Mitchell’s behalf, we must continue to raise up those that have fallen and take his place on the battlefield for equality, inclusiveness and fairness in every aspect of our lives. Parren Mitchell’s legacy must not be forgotten. My wife Patty and I share our deepest condolences with the entire Mitchell family.”
