MEDA’s annual meeting held at Rocky Gap Lodge & Golf Resort

ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 5, 2007) – Last night, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown was the keynote speaker at the Maryland Economic Development Association’s (MEDA) Annual Conference, at Rocky Gap Lodge & Golf Resort in Allegany County this evening.

“Maryland has great opportunities on the horizon and is in a unique position to build on the strengths of an educated workforce and a growing knowledge-based economy,” said Lieutenant Governor Brown.  “This conference provides an outstanding opportunity to discuss and collaborate on economic development and other important issues affecting each region of our State.”

This year’s MEDA conference, which was expected to attract more than 200 economic development professionals from across the state, focused on the theme “Balancing Growth in Maryland.”

“As head of the Governor’s Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Subcabinet, Lt. Governor Brown is directly involved in a number of important decisions that will affect Maryland’s business climate for many years,” said MEDA President John Savich. “Our members are most anxious to hear from the Lt. Governor about these issues, and about the Administration’s economic development priorities.”

The MEDA conference takes place over three days with various speakers and panel sessions all focused on the topic of “Balancing Growth in Maryland.”

“The topic for this year’s conference is a timely one, given our State’s challenges and opportunities related to Base Realignment and Closure,” said David W. Edgerley, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. “The educational, informational and partnership opportunities offered through MEDA help to ensure that our State and local governments move forward together to address these challenges and maintain our outstanding quality of life.”

MEDA enhances the knowledge and skills of its members and encourages partnerships and networking among people committed to bringing jobs and capital investment to Maryland.  Nearly 500 economic development professionals in the State of Maryland, local jurisdictions and the private sector are members of this statewide organization.
