Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown Teams up with USO to Distribute Care Packages to Deploying American Soldiers

BALTIMORE, MD (August 30, 2007) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown joined volunteers today from the United Services Organization (USO) to distribute care packages to members of the U.S. Air Force who are deploying to the Middle East as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“This is the least any of us could do to support the mission our brave men and women have accepted,” Lt. Governor Brown said.  “The people of Maryland support our troops and we hope and pray that they’ll return safely and soon.”

Lt. Governor Brown met with deploying soldiers at the USO International Gateway Lounge at Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport.  BWI-Thurgood Marshall is home to the Air Force’s busiest Air Mobility Command and offers service members baggage storage, DSN lines, pay phones, computers with Internet service, a sleeping room and other amenities that are complimentary to traveling service members and their families.  USO-Metro, the Baltimore/Washington chapter of the organization, operates lounges at each of the major local airports and has already served more than 450,000 service members this year.

Lt. Governor Brown is a Lieutenant Colonel (Promotable) in the United States Army.  In 2005, LCP Brown served a tour of duty in Iraq with the Army JAG Corps.
