SILVER SPRING, MD (September 5, 2007) — Lt. Governor Anthony Brown was the keynote speaker at the Maryland / District of Columbia Minority Supplier Development Council’s (MD/DC MSDC) first Presidential Power Breakfast, at Choice Hotels International in Montgomery County today. Senior level corporate executives, Minority Business Enterprise presidents/CEOs, and the Council’s corporate officers were in attendance.
“In Maryland, small business and minority business is big business,” said Lt. Governor Brown. “It is a great pleasure to see Maryland’s business leaders come together to build better relationships, as they play a vital role in employing Maryland’s workforce and create opportunities for more Marylanders.”
The presidential breakfast is the first of its kind and will become a quarterly series that facilitates educational, informational, and business development opportunities among the Council’s corporate members and certified minority-owned enterprises. Council President Kenneth Clark viewed the event as a definite success for the State, its corporate environment, as well as minority business enterprises (MBEs).
“A recent audit revealed that our corporate partners reported nearly $1 billion in spending with local minority business enterprises,” said Clark. “And The Council anticipates greater bottom line returns in 2008 for its certified MBEs.”
While in Montgomery County, Lt. Governor Brown toured the Food and Drug Administration facility in White Oak, participated in a lunch with Governor’s Workforce Investment board leaders, toured Montgomery College and met with faculty and students, and celebrated the grand opening of a new Honest Tea facility with Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett.
