ANNAPOLIS, MD (SEPTEMBER 20, 2007) The Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment announced today the approval of a $4.06 million grant to the State of Maryland “to enhance its capabilities to assist communities, businesses, and workers, as well as to stimulate cooperation between statewide and local adjustment activity in response to current defense downsizing and mission growth activity.”

Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement in response to the announcement:

“Maryland is well prepared for the arrival of 60,000 BRAC-related jobs and 28,000 households.  We are tremendously pleased that the Defense Department’s Office of Economic Adjustment is working not only with our county partners, but also with the State of Maryland as we continue to make progress and prepare to take full advantage of the opportunities Maryland has been given. The funds provided to the state will enable us to hire key personnel as well as to assist in providing the analytical foundation for our critical investment decisions.”
