Lt. Governor Brown Calls on Marylanders to Donate Blood

Region Needs More Donations to Prevent Against Dangerous Blood Shortages During the Holiday Season

ANNAPOLIS, MD  (November 20, 2007) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement today to encourage eligible Marylanders to donate blood during the holiday season.

“Each day, trauma patients, premature babies, cancer patients and individuals with chronic blood disorders depend on the generosity of their neighbors.  A pint of blood may be the most valuable gift any of us can give this holiday season.  During the winter months and around the holidays, many of our region’s hospitals and medical centers report severe and dangerous blood shortages.  Please give another person the gift of life this holiday season and donate blood.”

Lt. Governor Brown is a long-time supporter of the American Red Cross and was recently honored by the Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter as its Dignitary of the Year. The American Red Cross hosts nearly 30 blood collection operations everyday. To view the current blood drive schedule, potential donors can visit www.my-redcross.org.
