Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown Elected Treasurer of National Lieutenant Governors Association
BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 25, 2008) – Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown was elected today Treasurer of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA). Brown was in Buffalo, N.Y. to participate in the NLGA Annual Meeting.
“NLGA is an important fraternity of bipartisan public servants and I am proud that my colleagues from across the country have trusted me with this new responsibility. I am excited to work with Lieutenant Governor Lawton and the entire NLGA executive committee to ensure that this organization remains the vibrant and influential body it is,” Lt. Governor Brown said. “I look forward to welcoming all my fellow lieutenant governors to Maryland next summer when we can again share our thoughts and learn from each others’ accomplishments.”
At the NLGA winter meetings in Washington D.C. earlier this year, Baltimore was named the host city for the 2009 NLGA Annual Meeting. Brown hosted a luncheon earlier today to promote the 2009 conference. Lieutenant governors from across the country attended the lunch which included a serving of Maryland’s official state dessert, Smith Island Cake.
Wisconsin Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton (D) was elected Chair of NLGA by her colleagues, taking over for North Dakota Lt. Governor Jack Dalrymple (R).Virginia Lt. Governor Bill Bolling (R) is the immediate past Treasurer and newly-elected Vice Chair.
Brown’s term as Treasurer begins immediately and lasts a full year. Brown is the immediate past Regional Chair of the NLGA South Executive Committee.
