Statement from Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown
ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 30, 2009) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement in upon passage of SB 267 and SB 268:
“I enthusiastically applaud President Miller and the Maryland Senate for passing SB 267 and SB 268. Governor O’Malley and I made a commitment to fight back against domestic violence. These common sense bills are a big step in that direction. The debate on these bills has often been personal for many Marylanders, myself included. And while we know that this legislation will not bring back our lost loved ones, we are certain that our efforts will save the lives of future Marylanders.
“I thank all those who have shared their stories, especially Mary Crawford and Janet Blackburn, for what they have done to help eliminate the stigma often associated with domestic violence.”
The Maryland Senate passed both bills earlier today. The House of Delegates passed identical legislation two weeks ago.
