Statement from Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown on the Loss of United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Officer Stephen T. Johns
ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 11, 2009) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement today on the loss of United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Officer Stephen T. Johns:
“I extend my most sincere condolences to the family, particularly the wife and children of Stephen T. Johns whose life was taken away yesterday as he served faithfully to protect others as his last act of civic duty. Mr. Johns sacrificed his life to save hundreds. As a result of this tragedy, he will be missed for the courtesy and respect that he showed everyday to employees and visitors who entered the Holocaust Museum.”
“During this most difficult time, sometimes no words can express the remorse and sadness felt by the family, but we do hope that the family knows that the citizens of Maryland are here for them. Mr. Johns was a Marylander and a Prince Georgian, as myself, and we as a State will gather together collectively to help support the family through this process.”
“This act of violence should never have happened. We must take the necessary measures to educate our citizens against all forms of prejudices. Let us work together and in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ‘…one day our children will live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.’ ”
