Statement from Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown on Tragedy at Ft. Hood
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 6, 2009) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement this morning on the tragic shooting at Ft. Hood that killed 13 and wounded 30 soldiers and civilians:
“On a day like this, words fail us and we turn to prayer and seek comfort in the strength from one another. I certainly hope that the families of the fallen can find strength and comfort from the prayers and thoughts of an entire nation that joins their mourning.
“We are all particularly aware that many of these Fort Hood victims had survived the horrors of combat, only to be senselessly gunned down on American soil. As we begin November, our recognized month to honor Veterans, Marylanders offers not only their thoughts and prayers, but also a redoubled commitment to provide the best support and services to those who have served.
“I thank all of our military personnel and their families for the courage with which they serve and the fraternity that they provide for their brothers and sisters in uniform during tragedies like this.”
Lt. Governor Brown is a Colonel in the United States Army Reserves and commands the United States Army Reserves 153rd Legal Support Organization. Brown has served in the Armed Forces for over 25 years and is the nation’s highest-ranked elected official to have served a tour of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
