Lt. Governor Brown Statement Congratulating Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee for Passing Religious Freedom and Marriage Equality Act
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (February 17, 2010) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement today in congratulating the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee for approving the Religious Freedom and Marriage Equality Act for consideration by the full Maryland Senate:
“I applaud the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee for their historic vote today that will strengthen Maryland families. I believe all Marylanders and all Americans should be treated equally under the law, and I support the freedom to marry. Every member of our community should enjoy the same freedoms and share the same responsibilities.”
Brown was interviewed by the Washington Blade earlier this month and appeared on MSNBC to discuss his support of marriage equality. The Religious Freedom and Marriage Equality Act passed the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee with a 7-4 majority. The bill is likely to be debated by the full Senate next week.
