Statement from Lt. Governor Brown on House Passage of Civil Marriage Protection Act

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (February 17, 2012) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement today on the vote by the Maryland House of Delegate in favor of the Civil Marriage Protection Act of 2012:

“The Maryland House of Delegates has cast a historic vote in favor of stronger families, bringing us as close as Maryland has ever been to true marriage equality.  When two people come together in union, regardless of gender, and commit themselves to loving and supporting one another, they deserve the privileges and the responsibilities of marriage. The Civil Marriage Protection Act is right, it’s just, and it provides the same opportunity for all who wish to marry while fully protecting religious freedoms and views.”
