Lt. Governor Brown Statement on Signing of Civil Marriage Protection Act
ANNAPOLIS, Md.(March 1, 2012) – Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown released the following statement on today’s signing by Governor Martin O’Malley of the Civil Marriage Protection Act of 2012:
“Governor O’Malley made a promise to provide equal protection under the law to all those who wish to marry, and he kept his promise with the historic signing of the Civil Marriage Protection Act. When two people come together in union, regardless of gender, and commit themselves to loving and supporting one another, they deserve the privileges and the responsibilities of marriage. Today, Maryland has taken a stand for stronger families and loving, committed homes for more Maryland children while fully protecting religious freedoms throughout our State.”
