Statement from Governor O'Malley Following the Passage of the Obama Recovery and Reinvestment Plan

ANNAPOLIS, MD (February 14, 2009) – Governor Martin O’Malley issued the following statement today following the passage of the Obama Recovery and Reinvestment Plan late yesterday:

“I want to thank Senators Mikulski and Cardin, Leader Hoyer, and Congressmen Cummings, Ruppersberger, Van Hollen, Sarbanes, Edwards and Kratovil for their hard work over these past several weeks to deliver the Obama Recovery and Reinvestment plan, which will create or save up to 66,000 jobs here in Maryland.

“Based on preliminary review of the Obama Recovery and Reinvestment Plan passed by both Congressional chambers late yesterday, it includes about $3.8 billion for Maryland.  That means valuable investment in infrastructure, access to quality health care, and education funding for America’s number one public school system.

“These funds will be put to immediate use with the accountability, transparency, and efficiency that we’ve brought to our State government.  Over the coming weeks and months, we look forward to sharing with the public our plans for these funds to stabilize our economy, rebuild Maryland’s economic infrastructure, and create jobs for Marylanders.”
