Governor Martin O'Malley Greets Ravens, Wishes Team Luck in Playoffs
Governor orders State website decked in purple, relaxes state employee dress code to allow for 'Purple Friday'
ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 6, 2010) –Governor Martin O’Malley stopped by the Ravens’ Owings Mills practice facility today, where he greeted the team and wished them well as they prepare for a Sunday playoff matchup against the New England Patriots. The Governor’s visit is part of a long-standing tradition for O’Malley since his days as Mayor when he’s visited with the Ravens team prior to each of its playoff appearances.
“It’s an exciting time for Ravens fans, and we look forward to cheering on our Ravens all the way to the Super Bowl,” said Governor O’Malley. “This has been such a great season, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to cheer on our favorite team through the playoffs. We wish the players and the coaching staff well in New England on Sunday.”
The Governor also announced on Wednesday that he has declared this Friday, January 8, 2010, as “Purple Friday” for state employees, allowing the dress code for most employees to be relaxed to allow for Ravens gear to be worn.
Governor O’Malley also ordered this week that the Governor’s official state website be decked in Ravens Purple, to honor the team and show the state’s support in their quest for the Super Bowl. And he is encouraging other state websites to "go purple" to show their pride in the days and weeks to come.
The Baltimore Ravens face the New England Patriots in Foxborough, MA on Sunday at 1pm for the first round of the NFL playoffs.
