Hi, this is Governor Martin O’Malley.
Over the last few months, we’ve been focused on making our State Government work again for the people of Maryland; hiring and recruiting the most professional and competent administrators that we could find to lead our State agencies.
Just last week we announced a seven point plan to reform our Department of Juvenile Services in order to better protect the safety of every child who is in State custody. And yesterday we introduced a supplemental budget requesting $21 million from the General Assembly in order to reform our juvenile facilities.
We are also working with the General Assembly and the Attorney General’s Office to pass the Gang Prosecution Act. This legislation will strengthen penalties for gang violence and give Maryland prosecutors in every county more power to put gang members behind bars.
