In recent weeks, I visited several community hospitals across the State and it’s opened my eyes to how valuable an asset these facilities are to our common good in public health.
And it’s equally clear to me that Maryland has a community hospital system that is second to none. However, there are 800,000 Marylanders living without health insurance. Our community hospitals treat the uninsured, as they leave their doors open to those who most need the medical attention they otherwise would not have access to.
Governor O’Malley and I are working with the legislature, our Federal partners and Maryland’s medical community to make health care more affordable, because we believe that promoting access to quality health care is one of the fundamental responsibilities of Government.
